Structured Data Cabling — Alexis IT delivery in Waikato and Bay of Plenty.

Structured cabling that survives the next fit-out.

Certified data cabling for commercial buildings across Waikato and Bay of Plenty — labelled, documented and signed off in-house by the team that installed it.

What's included

Cabling is the longest-lived layer of business technology. The Cat6a you install today will outlast three generations of switching and at least one office reshuffle. Done well, the next refit is a small adjustment. Done badly — labels that don't match the patch panel, cables run on top of light fittings, no documentation — it becomes the silent cost that surfaces every time someone moves a desk or adds an outlet. Alexis IT installs cabling to a standard that holds up to audit, warranty claim and the next contractor who has to extend it.

  • Site survey and cabling schedule design before the install
  • Cable pull-through and termination to manufactures certified standard
  • Patch panel layout and labelling that maps to your floor plan
  • Comms cabinet build-out, including power, cable management and ventilation
  • As-built documentation pack at handover — schedule, single-line drawings, test results
  • Manufacturer warranty certification where the install is to Legrand spec
  • Co-ordination with electrical, security and IT work happening on the same site

How we deliver it

Cabling work runs against the architectural plan, not against guesswork. We scope before the building is occupied where we can, agree the cable schedule with you in writing, and install ahead of the trades that depend on us being finished. Because Alexis IT also holds Full Electrical Registration, the power runs to the comms cabinet and the protective devices on the cabling-room circuit are signed off by the same team — no separate sparky callback. At handover, you get a documentation pack you can hand to the next contractor without translation.

Outcomes

  • Every outlet traced to a patch panel port and a floor-plan location
  • Manufacturer warranty paperwork on file at handover
  • No coordination overhead between cabler and electrician — same team owns both
  • Cabling that doesn't need to be ripped out at the next refit

Frequently asked questions.

What's the difference between data cabling and structured cabling?
Used interchangeably in everyday practice. "Data cabling" describes the act of running a network cable point-to-point — a single new desk drop or extra meeting-room outlet. "Structured cabling" describes the underlying system — planned, documented, manufacturer-certified, with labelled patch panel and as-builts that survive the next office change. For any commercial fit-out, structured cabling is the foundation worth installing.
Should I install Cat6, Cat6a, or fibre?
For a typical commercial office in Waikato or Bay of Plenty, Cat6a is the sensible default — 10-gigabit headroom, standards-aligned, gives room for the next switch refresh without recabling. Cat6 is acceptable for smaller fit-outs with no 10-gig roadmap. Fibre comes in for inter-building runs, longer distances, and high-density switching backbones. The right answer for your specific building depends on size, ceiling space and the next ten years of growth.
How much does commercial data cabling cost per outlet?
Per-outlet cost varies a lot — main drivers are cable type, run length, accessibility (ceiling void vs slab vs riser), termination standard, the number of outlets being run in one programme, and whether the work happens during fit-out or in an occupied building. We price against a documented cabling schedule so the quote reflects actual install conditions, not an averaged rate.
Do you install in Hamilton, Cambridge, Tauranga and Mount Maunganui?
Yes. Structured and data cabling are core services across Waikato and Bay of Plenty. Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Morrinsville and Matamata sit inside the Waikato footprint; Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa, Rotorua and Whakatane sit inside the Bay of Plenty footprint. Same certified install team across every site.
Are you a certified installer?
Yes — Alexis IT is a Certified Data Cabling Installer. That certification is what allows us to install Legrand cabling systems (copper and fibre) to manufacturer specification and issue manufacturer-backed warranties at handover. If a warranty claim arises years later, the install paperwork is on file to support it.
